April Ross
April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball players to have won medals at least twice in an Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside Ross at Tokyo to win her third gold medal over the next couple of days. Ross hopes to win more than her first Olympic medal. Perhaps it is her last chance at winning, as she's 39 old. But she's still convinced of winning top awards. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and If we play our best, I think we could get the gold medal." Then I will also take the opportunity to try my chances. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in the year 1982. Her parents as well as her sister were residents in the area. Along with playing in numerous sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. Apart from playing indoor volleyball, she also ran track and basketball as a pre-collegiate athlete. She was definitely the best in the game of indoor volleyball. When she played in her time at the high school level in her university biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. She was named by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman started their partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene star for years before. She actually won numerous major events in the past with two different partners. one of whom is a volleyball icon. From 2007 until 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Together with Kessy Ross was a force in the world circuit, winning the world championship in 2009. The duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat out for gold. As fate would have it Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her college after graduating from the high school she attended. Ross had an impressive run during her time in the NCAA tournament. In 2000, as a freshman she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA All-American Freshman of Year awards and was also an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. After her sophomore year, she experienced a terrible personal loss, yet earned the distinction of being an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons, she took the Trojans up the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her place as a legendary volleyball player. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross didn't get to see Ross become the highest beach volleyball stage. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer when she was a sophomore in USC. In the aftermath, Ross continues to be close to her parent who died. Margie is a beach lover and in daily life, inspires her.
